RELAXER OR REPAIR TREATMENT?

Keratin Treatment is not a relaxer or straightener. It is a "treatment" that penetrates the cuticle and then is sealed with either polymers or silicone base. The reason why so many people think that it is a straightener is because it leaves each strand heavily filled with keratin. Now... this will make sense to you. The more chemically or heat damaged cuticle on the hair, the more it will be filled with the keratin "nanomolecules". Adding weight to the hair and pulling it down. That means that someone whom has gotten a "Japanese, thermal or regular relaxer will have the impression that this is a relaxer. However if the Keratin treatment has been done on "healthy" hair that has no chemicals it just adds incredible shine and smoothness but the natural curl or wave remains ( in other words it won't straighten the hair) and it only last up to two months. This description is based on a person wanting to natural dry or air dry their hair. If you are to blow dry or flat iron your hair after the keratin treatment it will have less longevity. If you use an ingredient such as "Sodium chloride" in your shampoo or get a color service over the keratin treatment it will re-open the cuticle of the hair and once again remove the "nanomolecule" you payed so lovely for. The only way to permanently straighten hair is by chemically restructuring the natural "DNA" or bond formation of the hair. Then reconstructing it to permanently a straight formation so it CAN air dry stick straight. However two weeks after a straightener has been done the keratin treatment is awesome and you will be a happy camper that doesn't have to worry about humidity, blow drying or flat ironing anymore. Keep in mind that the right shampoo will keep your treatment in longer ( up to 4 months)

Brazilian Keratin Treatment with no Formaldehyde

There is something out there in the industry with no formaldehyde. It's called QOD "Escova Progresiva" what it is: A technologically advanced formula on hair repairing systems. It uses 22K gold as a conductor of heat at a nano level http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanotechnology which in turn a combination of hydrating emollients and keratin are then driven into the cuticle of the damaged hair. It's name "escova progresiva" means "progressive blow out" which in turn every time the client uses a blow dryer to style or just dry the hair it reactivates the treatment. There is no chemical used to preserve the treatment because it's not needed. That is why they called it the progressive blow out. I interviewed the manufacturing rep and he was so impressed with the knowledge we now posses over their products and doings out in Brazil. I informed him that with such an uproar they will be under an American microscope. Although I personally don't rule out formaldehyde from the cosmetic industry ( let's face it your nail polish wouldn't last and your nails wouldn't harden either) We do however need to keep the public informed of the proper use of the Brazilian Keratin Treatments. THESE TREATMENTS ARE NOT MEANT FOR HOME OR SELF APPLICATION.

Keratin Toxic?

KERATIN TOXIC?
In my search for the latest and effective products, I found that there is a huge uproar on the Brazilian Keratin Treatment. By the way Nanokeratin is the same thing. The method used to apply the product during the treatment will expose the client and the stylist to the vapors or fumes of the chemical. However it turns out that this was not current news in Brazil. There had been adjustments done to the formula already. But since this product is being exported to the USA via private distributors or direct purchases, somethings are neglected. However I took the list of ingredients from one of three keratin treatment and searched the net on each one. Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) a silicone. http://www.sehsc.com/d5.asp.Propylparaben
http://en.mimi.hu/beauty/propylparaben.html
, for methylparben http://www.betterhealthandliving.com/articles/natural_beauty/
, on the phase two of this treatment I find listed on the ingredients the following: Dimethyl http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyl_sulfide, Methyl http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methyl
,Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) a silicone. http://www.sehsc.com/d5.asp.

Compared to some other products in the beauty industry the percentages and actual ingredients are not as harsh as everyone seems to think. I've researched beauty products with worst ingredients manufactured here in USA. But is being manufactured here so it's OK. If this message get to your hands, inform me back. A lot of my postings get "lost" in the bulk and the mainstream doesn't get to read it. Things that make you go Hmmmm!

NANOKERATIN

Keratin in the trade

I just came from the San Juan Beauty show, Which by the way is not much different than the IBS in New York. I find it to be overly priced, instead of a significant emotional experience is an abuse to the Puertorican market. The "Nanokeratin", "Brazilian Keratin Treatment" and the "Nanoqueratina del Caribe" had a fierce competition. One... offering to exchange equipment with the salon promising to buy at least every two months the supply for the treatment. The Other selling the one box of six treatments at $250.00. The complete system at $900.00 with compressor and one box of treatment. Now If I was to buy this product I would have to inflate the price of service to $120.00 for a short hair client. Someone with shoulder length is looking at $280.00 and up. Now... what they all failed to inform the Professionals purchasing these systems is if a client has a chemical service such as color on a monthly basis the treatment will deactivate! Or shampoo's with SODIUM CHLORIDE will also strip the keratin from the strand of hair! Try finding a shampoo without this ingredient in it.

This occurs with all of the Keratin treatments, regardless of brand. Some "Formaldehyde Free" Brazilian Keratin Treatment contains 2% Ether!, which is an anesthetic with side effects such as nausea and lung irritation. Now, I did purchased the nanokeratin treatment by "Tanagra"www.tangra.com.br I like it so far... but still take caution by wearing a mask, Then again I do the same when I use my airbrush tanning solution. Let's face it all of the chemicals in our industry will eventually cause some trauma to our lungs we are the ones more exposed to these vapors. A client might be exposed to it temporarily but we are there day in day out.
Till next time.

keratin madness

I have seen many things hit the Beauty market with force. But I have never seen such and uproar over anything on the Internet. The Brazilian keratin treatments has been such a topic of discussion that I decided to create this blog and get everything link on it just to send people to it. I am constantly answering questions and concerns over toxins, longevity of process, can it be done on my hair? It is so much that I am going to start collecting everything I find on the net about the Keratin treatments that's out there and the once to come. So... stay tuned the saga continues.
